Suite for Solo Cello: Preludia Fantasia
By Russell Sam
Artist's Statement
Gaspar Cassado's Suite for Solo Cello is a piece that represents pride to me in many ways. Cassado composed in a very identifiable Spanish style, as he took pride in his own culture and music. The piece features a solo cello, as stated in the title, who must take pride in their own musicality and skill to perform this piece in front of an audience. I also take a bit of personal pride in this piece, as it is my own interpretation of it and I used this piece to compete and place second in the recent Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside competition.
